In Memory of Pastor James
(Jim) Jeffries,
1940-2009 |
|
Originally from Glasgow, Kentucky to parents Delmar C. and Annie Jeffries,
he felt the call of the Lord early in his life. At the age of 11 his
family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and in Elmwood, Ohio was saved at the age
of 12, at Highland Ave. Baptist Church. At the age of 16 he helped
organize the
Winton Place Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio under Pastor E. Howard
Meece, who also shortly thereafter became his Father-in-Law. In 1959 at
the age of 19 he married Betty Joyce Meece the daughter of the late Pastor
E. Howard Meece (1961) and the couple went on to have 7 children: Melody,
Timothy, Jamie Ann, Richard, Robert, Philip and Stephen. |

In 1962 he was ordained a Deacon of Winton Place
Baptist
Church and one year later, in 1963, called by the Lord to preach His
Gospel under the new Pastor of Winton Place Baptist Church, Kelly Cambell.
Within the same year Brother Jeffries started a mission in New Baltimore,
Ohio with his father and stayed in the work there until 1966. In 1966 at
the age of 26, Bro. Jeffries enrolled at the Lexington Baptist College (LBC)
in Lexington, KY to study for the preaching ministry and joined Ashland
Avenue Baptist Church under Pastor and LBC chairman Clarence Walker. In
1967, he accepted the call to be pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of
Winchester, KY. Also in the same year he was ordained to the Gospel
Ministry by his home church the Winton Place Baptist Church of Cincinnati,
Ohio. |

In 1971 the Lord moved him back
to Cincinnati there to take the call of Pastor to the Fincastle Baptist
Church in Fincastle, Ohio. In 1974 he accepted the call to be
Pastor/Missionary of Abounding
Grace
Baptist Church in Salt Lick, KY, where he served as a home missionary and
Pastor under
Bryan Station Baptist Church of Lexington, KY.
In 1975 Bro. Jeffries finished his Bachelor of Arts Degree, B.A., from
Lexington Baptist College and a year later finished his Master of Arts
Degree, M.A., from Morehead State University. In the same year of 1976 he
resigned from Abounding Grace Baptist Church in Salt Lick, KY and assumed
a full-time faculty position at the Lexington Baptist College and accepted
the responsibilities of Bus Director at Ashland Avenue Baptist Church. |

Between the years
from 1977 - 1979 he accumulated more education acquiring his Master
of Higher Education, M.H.E., degree
from Morehead State University and his Master of Religious Education,
M.R.E, from Lexington Baptist College. In 1981 he was appointed
the Academic Dean of Lexington Baptist College and in the same year
received his Doctrine of Divinity, D.D. Bro. Jeffries stayed at Lexington
Baptist College as an Administrator and a Professor lecturing and guiding
future preachers and missionaries from all over the world for a total of
18 years until the year 1994. |

In 1994 he resigned from Lexington Baptist College and accepted the call
from Lexington Bethel Baptist Church of Lexington, KY, where he served
until he retired as Pastor Emeritus in January of 2007 due to poor health.
In June of the same year Bro. Jeffries lost his wife to a long illness
having been married for 46 years. On May 16th, 2009, Pastor Jeffries
was promoted to glory after a battle with Parkinson's disease. He is
now united with his Lord, wife and daughter in the eternity prepared for
him, that he preached for 45 years. |
